Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you photograph weddings from other cultures and faiths?

Yes, we absolutely do! We have both grown up in a melting pot of vast religious and cultural diversity and love working with multi-cultural clients or clients that have a different background to us. We gladly entertain enquiries from interested couples that do not happen to be Muslim. However, our service may not be suitable for clients that are planning to have alcohol during their reception as that particular environment will not align to our personal beliefs and we may not be able to provide coverage from start to finish. But fear not, we network with some great like-minded documentary wedding photographers and we will gladly make the introduction if our service is not suitable for you.

2. How much interaction and influence can I expect from you on my wedding day?

This is a very common question asked by a lot of our clients who really care about having an honest reflection of their wedding rather than a wedding dictated by their photographer or videographer. We expect that up to 90% of your wedding day will go uninterrupted or influenced by us. This ensures that your wedding and the moments we capture for you are a reflection of all the hard work you put into your planning rather a generic formula applied by your photographer. The final 10% is mostly related to taking group photos and your photo shoot where we will use our experience and expertise to ensure you get the most out of each session. Our approach to the photo shoot itself is covered in the next question below.

3. My fiancé and I are very shy in front of the camera and have never done this before. Will you make us feel comfortable during the photoshoot?

Firstly, awwww! And secondly, it’s completely natural and practically every couple in our portfolio has said the same thing to us. Your photoshoot with us is all about bringing out your chemistry and capturing your first few moments together as a married couple. We ensure we go at a pace that is comfortable for you both and we work with you to overcome the initial shyness by giving you subtle hints and tips on how to stand in each other’s presence that is both flattering and allows us to capture you in the beautiful ambience of your venue and grounds. Most importantly we want you to remember your photoshoot with us as a fun experience and for your photographs to reflect that.

4. Do you use second shooters and will you send someone else to photograph my wedding?

Absolutely and unreservedly not. One of the core principles of our work is that we retain full creative control over our photography from the decision to take a photograph to the final edit and delivery. This means that we do not employ or hire anyone else to photograph a wedding for us. This is especially relevant when a client has parts of their wedding that will be segregated as it will only be Shahara that photographs and handles those from start to finish. For us it is extremely important for a client considering our website and portfolio, to be 100% confident that every single photograph has been taken by one of us and that they can expect a similar standard and style of wedding photography at their event. This is the primary reason why we do not operate as a ‘Studio’ or provide second shooters to photograph under our name.

5. Can we book either of you alone, to work alongside another wedding photographer?

For events up to 150 guests we can be booked individually but we do require that photographic coverage is exclusively assigned to us. This is to ensure that we are able to photograph the wedding in our unique style of documentary wedding photography without having to tiptoe around another photographer. With respect to wedding videographers and cinematographers, we will happily work alongside another professional videographer or cinematographer. We simply ask that you introduce us to each other a few weeks before your wedding, so we can establish an understanding of how we can cooperate during the wedding.

6. How does your segregated service work?

Our segregated service is unique in that it was the first truly segregated service offered in the UK with a dedicated professional female wedding photographer and is segregated from start to finish. Any images taken by Shahara under a segregated environment will only ever be handled by Shahara throughout the lifecycle of those images. Shahara will ensure that those images are not seen by any other male (including Hassan) and she will edit those images privately and when complete, she will provide the images directly to the bride, who can then share those images at her discretion.

7. Do you use presets, plugins or filters?

The simple answer is no. We feel that whilst plugins or filters do have the ability to add certain artistic effects to an image, these effects will all come and go with changes in fashions and trends. Our philosophy first and foremost is to capture moments and create wedding memories that will stand the test of time and will be cherished by our clients and their future generations. We also like to ensure each image we provide our clients has been edited to our style and standards without any shortcuts made through the use of presets and filters.

8. What type of equipment do you use?

We both use professional equipment made by Nikon and have two of everything so we never have to pass gear back and forth during a wedding and can operate completely independently of each other. We also come with enough backup equipment, batteries and lights that allow us to continue working uninterrupted in the event of equipment malfunctioning. Our pet hate is charging equipment at a client event and something that we never do.

9. Will you market your services to my guests during my wedding?

Two words… Yuck! and No! We will never ever leave any marketing material or business cards lying around anywhere at your wedding. We believe this is disrespectful to the time and effort our clients have spent on planning and arranging their wedding décor. Secondly, we ensure that we dress appropriately for the occasion, allowing us to blend in and minimise any intrusion for you or your guests. This also means we won’t be wearing any item of clothing that contains our logo or contact details, no matter how big or small.

10. How long before I receive my images?

Images usually take between 3-4 months from the date of the last event to be fully edited and available for viewing in the online galleries. Your contract will state when you should expect to have your images ready by.

11. What are your payment terms?

We require 30% as a non-refundable booking fee to secure our availability for the date(s) requested. The remainder is payable 21 calendar days before your wedding.
